Hero team build for caster profession players based on Discord, Keystone Signet and bone minions. Mercenary heroes are not required.

Notes

  • This hero team build is designed to make effective use of Discord without inefficiently using secondary profession skills. It will work fine for most hard mode content such as explorable areas, missions, most dungeons and the winds of change questline, but struggle in areas such as the domain of anguish, the underworld and slaver's exile.
  • General strengths are a solid damage output which is balanced between single target and AoE damage. Despite the thin backline the build proves to be pretty stable due to midline defense such as minions, weakness, blindness, "Stand Your Ground!", Arcane Conundrum and interrupts. Defense and offense are interlaced by using defensive conditions and hexes for discord as well as the co-occurrence of interrupts and damage or low level minions with fast cast death novae. Blood of the Master and Blood Bond help to keep minions alive until the next encounter.
  • In order to function properly the build requires exploitable corpses. It will also suffer from massive enchantment removal such as Mirror of Disenchantment or Chilblains; without Masochism and Symbolic Celerity the midline damage output will be decreased.


Some common issues of necromancer minion masters have been tackled by using keystone signet mesmer minion masters.

Avoided issues:

  • Damage/healing hybrid AI issues: Heroes dealing damage when they should heal or overhealing when they could deal damage.
  • Death Nova and healing skills on the same hero, causing him to use death nova on a target instead of healing it.
  • Masochism on a healer causing inefficiency due to the need to selfheal frequently.
  • Minions and death nova on the same necromancer minion master. Due to the long casting times this will frequently cause the necromancer to fall behind.

Eased issues:

  • The necromancer with Animate Bone Minions possesses "Fall Back!", so if he falls behind he and his minions should be able to close or tighten the gap.
  • Because of 16 fast casting mesmer minion masters will fall behind less than non-mesmer minion masters. Nonetheless it may occur every now and then.
  • Trouble to compete with opposing minion masters, as their minion creation time is reduced by 50% in hard mode.
  • Blood of the Master on a minion master. Heroes tend to sacrifice a lot of health with this skill, making them prone to die mid-combat losing their minions. They will never sacrifice themselves to death, though, unless they run masochism. The health sacrifice of masochism is "hidden", so heroes won't consider it when calculating the health sacrifice. Deaths due to blood of the master may still occur in this team build, but won't have the same impact.
