Even with a battery energy's going to be a bit of a problem sometimes, and having to depend on another hero just to make the build work is not ideal. In 4 man areas that may not be a viable option for example.
The shockwave variant provides a decent mix out of armour dependent area damage and armour ignoring single target damage. Run into balling casters with your 40/40 set, detonate the area damage (ideally alongside a PI hero to deal additional damage against knocked down targets) and then proceed to reap the hard targets with supported dagger attacks. Mostly held back by its hard blood is power dependency.
I found this very strong after using it in several areas, including DoA. I tested the shockwave and starburst variants. I plan to further test double dragon and ride the lightning when I have time.
The damage output is quite impressive for both AOE and single target. With proper target selection and body blocks, you tear things apart with splinter and your PBAoEs. While I can’t really say it will out perform a Sin dagger spam, or even a standard Ele nuker, the power is there and with proper play I deem it to be at least comparable. It far, far out performed the standard Starburster because it is far less gimped by armor ignoring damage and rarely causes foes to scatter, while still pumping out great numbers on backline with Starburst + Intensity. In fact, I can’t think of a single instance where I would not use this build if I was planning to play a PBAOE elementals anyway. It just does everything as good or better. In this regard, the build resembles an AP nuker as it provides strong nukes backed up by potent spiking.
Finally, I should note that the real weakness this build has is energy management and it would be close to impossible to run without a BIP support. You just can’t sustain the spam without it.
Overall very strong and I look forward to testing more variants, which have so far made it effective (with tweaks based on the offered variants) in nearly every context.
Conjures were a necessity in my personal experience with this build, I've found it to be much more effective and am glad to see them on the optionals page. For anyone not using them on this build, I implore you to give them a shot, it increases your single target dps output substantially.
