Purpose

The synergy of a paragon's protective power, mesmer shutdown and defensive communing spirits renders this team very stable despite featuring a lot of direct damage. Usually the blood is power healer only needs to heal himself. Due to spiritual pain and empathy physical foes are cut down quickly despite their lower energy pool and all hostile summoned creatures vanish quickly.

Strengths:

  • Easily tweakable.
  • Quick damage burst.
  • Player deals damage.
  • Shutdown by mistrust, rupts and energy depletion.
  • Good enchantment and hex removal.
  • Good survivability.
  • Quick removal of summoned foes.
  • Resistant to hex, enchantment and condition removal.
  • Does not require exploitable corpses.

Weaknesses:

  • Low amount of healing. Not an issue unless there's plenty of armor ignoring constant damage such as from environment effects.
  • Damage against physicals mostly single-targeted.
  • No "fall back!".


Player build

You gain 2 Energy for each ally affected by one of your Shouts or Chants (maximum 6 Energy).

  • Equipment: Vampiric "strength and honour!" spear of defense with a tactic "I can see clearly now!" shield of fortitude. Insightful "hale and hearty" staff of defense. 5 centurio's insignia, 1 rune of clarity.
  • Weapon set usage: Use your spear and shield set for attacking, switch to your staff if you happen to run out of energy but need to use one of your energy skills.
  • Use spear of fury after blazing spear.
  • Use "save yourselves!" only when your team needs the protection or you need the energy.
  • If you smartly rotate through your attack skills you can either keep up SY permanently or use attack skills on every attack, depending on what's needed.
  • If you're hexed, move near foes as heroes will use shatter hex as a damage skill while in combat.
  • Try to hit summoned creatures with holy spear for armor ignoring AoE bonus damage before spiritual pain destroys them.

  • Defensive staff of defense/enchanting, 5 blessed insignia. The chosen weapon does not matter much, so you could aswell chose +30 or +60 health points and give the hero two superior attribute runes.


Mesmer hero variation

There's plenty of ways to adjust the mesmer heroes to counter any opponent. In very few defense quests a single instance of panic over energy surge can be decisive, as in raid on Shing Jea monastery (see below), or one to two instances of psychic instability at 16 fast cast. In some areas such as the domain of anguish foes use so many skills that you can replace one or two instances of energy surge with visions of regret. If there are few physical opponents, reduce the number of empathy to one, else increase it and add one or two instances of signet of weariness. If there are many hexes, increase the number of shatter hex or add hex eater signet. When there's few enchantments, replace drain enchantment with other means of energy management or a signet). When there's many protection prayers enchantments, consider adding shatter enchantment over spiritual pain, mistrust, cry of pain, empathy or shatter hex. Two instances of wastrel's worry cut (prophecies) bosses down quickly.

If you know that you play against resourceful healers, consider replacing inspiration magic entirely with guilt und shame on a few mesmers. Combines especially well with aneurysm on one to two heroes.
